Psycho

Psycho is one of the creepiest and most atmospheric online slots you could ever play. Its creators, NextGen Gaming, were inspired to produce it as part of an ongoing partnership with Universal Studios, and it is, of course, named after one of Alfred Hitchcock's classic films of the same name.

If you're unfamiliar with the plot of the Psycho movie, it revolves around a secretary (Marion) who goes on the run after embezzling $40,000 from her employer so that she can run away with her boyfriend. After getting caught in a torrential rainstorm while driving down back roads, Marion decides to rest up for the night at the Bates Motel, where she meets the quiet and reserved owner – Norman Bates – and his domineering and psychotic mother, Mrs Bates. The terrifying shower scene is one of the most iconic moments in the movie, and the build-up to Marion's demise is perfectly portrayed in the Psycho slot through graphics that are inspired by the movie, a bathtub backdrop, and chilling music. If you can stick it out long enough to discover the slot's bonus features, you'll discover random wild multipliers and a free games bonus where wild wins can be multiplied by up to 40x.

Appearance and Sound Effects

Psycho begins with video footage from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 movie to help set the scene. As rain pours down on the windscreen of your car, the "Vacancy" sign for the Bates Motel at the side of the road seems like the perfect answer to the inclement weather. However, the sudden flashes of lightning which cast a spooky glow over the old house on the hill could well be a warning sign that you'd be wise to heed. Unfortunately, the intro then cuts off, and you find yourself in the bathroom of a motel room with no way to escape.

The backdrop is provided by the hotel sign, Mrs Bates' house, and stormy skies which are partially lit by a full moon and the odd lightning strike. The reels are formed from a wet shower curtain, which is made even more realistic by the drips of water that continually run down it.

The soundtrack of spine-chilling orchestral music and rumbles of thunder creates an ominous atmosphere as you spin the reels in the hopes of creating winning combinations with symbols like Marion Crane, Norman Bates, the knife, the old house, the room key, the cash-stuffed envelope, the peephole, and the playing card symbols.

Bonuses and Special Features

The Knife acts as the wild symbol, and it can step in and replace all symbols except scatters. Wild wins can also receive random multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 20x.

The Psycho Wilds Feature sees the knife randomly slash the reels to add extra wild symbols to any spin.

The scatter symbol is represented by the hotel owner's deranged mother, Mrs Bates' old house, and it's the most valuable symbol in the entire game. It also awards ten, fifteen or twenty free games when it appears three, four or five times anywhere across the reels. Not only can you enjoy extra Psycho Wilds in the Free Games Bonus, but you can also earn even more generous wild multipliers of up to 40x. In addition, you can pick up more free spins each time that three or more scatters come into view.

Paylines/Reels

Psycho uses five reels, three rows of symbols, and twenty-five fixed paylines, and has an average RTP (Return to Player Rate) of 95.568%. The game lets you create winning combinations using matching symbols in succession from the leftmost reel to the rightmost reel.

Mobile Compatibility

The game is designed to work with desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets, and includes mobile-friendly game controls when played on mobile devices.

Our Verdict

Luckily, you don't have brave the night at the Bates Motel to enjoy playing the Psycho online slot. But, you'll need nerves of steel if you want to make the most out of the game, as when the knife randomly slashes across the screen, it can make you jump out of your seat. The huge wild multipliers are the biggest highlight of this atmospheric Hitchcock-inspired slots game. So, brace yourself for a wild time and check-in on your mobile or desktop to experience some truly engrossing gameplay today!
